About Us

Iron Block Harley-Davidson, Inc. was started in 1985 and was housed in an old "Studebaker" dealership on US Route 11 in Adams Center, New York.

Obviously, one of the first things that had to be done after being accepted as a franchised Harley-Davidson dealer and meeting all the legal and monetary requirements, was to come up with a good name for the dealership.

We wanted to stay away from standard type names, i.e. last name of owner, so we looked into the History of Jefferson County 1879 book published by Emmett's.

In that book was eye popping documentation about one of the founders and industrialists from Watertown by the name of George Woodruff.

Mr. Woodruff built an entire block in the downtown area that Housed several building including the Woodruff House Hotel which was famous for hosting several celebrities including our 18th President, Ulysses S Grant.

He also built a building called the Iron Block building because it was built of Iron (steel) and Block, this name seemed well suited because of its catchy ring and the fact that Harley-Davidson have always been associated with the Iron Steed or Horse, hence the name Iron Block Harley-Davidson.
